A quick chat with RL Grime ahead of his upcoming Australian tour

The Australian festival favourite gives us some quick bites of knowledge on his second album and what to expect from his upcoming tour.

RL Grime is an artist who needs no real introduction to Australia, with the long-time producer well-known for showcasing his hard-hitting productions on his numerous past tours of the country, which have included slots at Groovin' The Moo, ORIGIN NYE and a whole heap more. After laying rather low release-wise since the release of his 2014 debut album Void (with the excpetion of last year's mammoth Skrillex and What So Not collab Waiting, and the teasing single Aurora), 2017 sees RL Grime return to the spotlight with his forthcoming second album, which was announced earlier this year with the synth-saturated, Rustie-esque anthem Reims and his own zine, which hinted that the album's title is NOVA. Ahead of his slot at Splendour In The Grass this weekend and a monstrous round of sideshows with Tkay Maidza and Enschway (dates at the bottom of this article - click through the photo for tickets), we managed to quickly grab ahold of the super-producer in transit, and ask him what he's been up to since the release of Void, and a broad tease at what to expect from album number two.

It's been almost three years since the release of your debut album Void, what have you been up to since that dropped in 2014?

Shit, has it been that long? Let's see, I'm still touring regularly, I bought a house, got a dog, but most importantly have been working on my second album.

How is the second album coming along? Is it finished yet?

Yeah it's coming along well, been a long, interesting process. It's not finished yet but it's definitely nearing the final stages.

Is the track Stay For It similar to everything else on the album so far, or is album #2 shaping up to cover a lot of sub-genres and sounds like Void?

On the new album I'm trying to explore a brighter sound, but still keep it in my style.

Are we going to be hearing any of this new stuff on your Australian tour, which kicks off in Auckland tomorrow? What have you got in store for us with your new live show?

Yeah definitely going to be playing the new stuff... Haven't played in Australia/NZ in almost two years so the live show will be brand new (new stage set up / lighting / visuals)... Can't wait for everyone to see it.
