Meet "atomic-noise-surf-punkers" White Blanks, and their new single I Don't Wanna (Die)
Fans of the Aussie surf-punk will find plenty to love with this Wollongong three-piece.
White Blanks are a Wollongong-based three-piece who've been kickign around since 2014, combining grunge, surf, psych, rock and punk in a way that still manages to sound fresh in Australia's sea of surfie rock bands. Having supported bands such as this (Hockey Dad, Dune Rats, Drunk Mums), the trio are steadily crafting their own space in this world, and latest single I Don't Wanna (Die) is a cracking new single that sits proudly atop their already strong back cat.
Ahead of a bunch of shows this September/October, you can get to know 'em a little better below:
Tell us about yourselves?
We’re White Blanks - a bunch of fellas that like to play songs that are loud and verging on a blend of the new wave surf mentality and what’s yet to come. We’re just out here trying to make other people happy and feel something with our sounds.
What kinda tunes we talkin’?
We have been known to call our sound Atomic-Noise-Surf-Punk but it’s blending into more of a mix between surf-punk and shoegaze. Our new single is one of our heavier songs yet we try to make our sound kinda diverse.
Production/writing process:
Our writing process is essentially Marcus sitting in his room for weeks to months on end writing and demoing songs for the band before showing everyone. Then we sort of work it out together and bring it to a level that we’d enjoy playing live then mash it all together. Recording process is a lot of Marcus nerding out and trying to create a new sound.
Can you tell us about your new single, I Don’t Wanna (Die)?
IDW(D) is a song about trying to out-live yourself and your bad thoughts which is kinda hard to do but essentially just telling yourself "I don’t wanna die" and just marching on through life.
Any shows coming up?
We are going to be doing a run of shows to launch the single across NSW starting in Coogee at Selina’s and taking it up to Newcastle aback home to Gong and closing off with two big shows in one day in Sydney.
What’s the rest of the year have in store?
We plan to put out our sophomore EP and taking it cross country and just try and have a good time doing it. Just keep living the ultimate life motto "Life’s a Garden, Dig It".
Where can we hear more of your music?
Our music can be found all out music on most streaming service (Spotify, Apple Music) and also Bandcamp if you’re vibing that.
