Premiere: Young Vincent share a sprawling new single, Big News

The Melbourne indie band will release their self-titled debut EP later this month.

If you're yet to be acquainted, Young Vincent is a Melbourne-based trio that seemingly specialises in sprawling, sound-varying indie-rock – if their self-titled debut EP is anything to go by, that is. While the full EP doesn't arrive until March 15 (we'll go into more detail on it in a second, don't worry), today we get a glimpse of what to expect with Big News, an extensive and long-winding lead single that doesn't quite settle long enough for you to get comfortable. Instead, it keeps you on edge, switching from a more subtle, bass-driven groove to something more open and The War Of Drugs-esque in nature, before switching back once again for a soft outro. It works in their favour though, as the single's changing pace and stretching melodies show versatility and range – something quite hard to do across a single, let alone a full EP.

"Big News is a message of encouragement and anticipation," the band say on the single. "With the lead up to our debut EP, we honed in on our song-writing process and consequently developed the sound featured in Big News. Instrumentally and in the lyrics, there’s the anticipation of waiting for something, which is what we’ve felt in Young Vincent and even personally in recent years. It represents the EP’s encouragement that things will fall into place if you focus on what’s important."

As mentioned, it's the first single to arrive from their forthcoming debut EP, which will arrive independently on March 15th before a launch show at Melbourne's Northcote Social Club that night. "This EP has been a long time coming for us," the band continue. "It’s a collection of our proudest and most diversely creative songwriting. From the beginning, we had a goal to change people’s expectations and to uncover a sound that is true to us. We couldn’t be happier with how it has come together and we are so excited to share these five songs."
