Listen: Crepes - Cold Summers EP

If you’re in Melbourne right now you should see Crepes launch their EP tonight.

Crepes; perhaps something you’d assume a clichéd Frenchman with a curly moustache, a blue and white striped top and a chronically depressed-looking hat would be shoving in your face. But not today, where we have Ballarat’s musical response to this national stereotype with jangly garage rock. Which, on its own isn’t much a deal-breaker as it’s a well populated genre but the haze of Beatles-esque melodies and lackadaisical jams that take cues from stoner music makes it subtly catchy. Indeed tracks like Cold Summers reward you as you slowly melt into the vocals much like Size Of Your Town does. What makes Cold Summers, the EP as a whole, worthwhile isn’t all the reverb but the sense of calm pressed into the vocals. You can catch Crepes at their EP Launch today in Melbourne:
