Premiere: Melbourne Five-Piece Baby Blue's New Single of Vibrant Surf Pop, 'Hills Hoist'
Take a first listen to the third single from their forthcoming first album
Have you ever headed to your local with a mate for post-heartbreak D&Ms that last for hours until everything that’s able to be said, has been said? I certainly have, as has Baby Blue lead singer and songwriter Rhea Caldwell, channeling these vibes into mellow new single Hills Hoist, premiering on Pilerats today ahead of its April 5 release.
The third single from their imminent debut album Of My Window, Hills Hoist uses the nostalgic analogy of being strung upside down from a clothesline until all the feelings and emotion have tumbled out. Taking cues from vintage surf rock and modern Americana, Hills Hoist is a three-and-a-half minute cut of blissful and wistful indie pop.
Bringing the Hills Hoist analogy to life visually is the lofi music video that opens with Rhea jamming on a suburban rooftop before finding herself dangling from the titular clothesline, before meeting up with the rest of the band for a cuppa and chinwag before setting up for an impromptu backyard concert.
The latest taste of their soon-to-be-released debut album Of My Window, Baby Blue’s first album will see them explore further relatable and timely themes of self-improvement, the joys and pitfalls of casual romance, and trying to stay positive in an increasingly challenging world.
Before then though, Hills Hoist will be out April 5, but you can take a fist watch and listen as Baby Blue’s new single and music video premiere on Pilerats today:
Baby Blue's new single Hills Hoist is out April 5; album Of My Window out April 12 via Lost and Lonesome
