Premiere: Loretta Miller & Ruby Jones - Eighteen

These Naarm based musicians collaborate for a rollicking anthem portraying their shared experience as female artists.

Former Clairy Browne and The Bangin' Rackettes members Loretta Miller and Ruby Jones are respected musicians in their own right, both hailing from Naarm/ Melbourne’s rich music scene, the pair reunite for a long-awaited collaboration, writing, recording, and sharing lead vocals in their latest ode to being a woman in music; Eighteen.

"Ultimately, 'Eighteen' is a rollicking and anthemic celebration of female friendship on the road.” shares Joans, and that it is as a thumping bass line, tremolo-laced guitars, sizzling saxophone, and the hop-skip of the drums backs the duo’s searing and delightfully complimentary vocal tones, intertwine to detail “a unique experience and one that isn’t often reflected in music in the way men’s stories are, so we were keen to explore this, while addressing the sombre reality of ageism and misogyny within the music industry.” continues Jones.

Poetically articulating their shared experience in a sonically captivating way, touching on a much deeper issue within the global industry - Miller adding "At this point in my career, what causes me the most anxiety isn't my ability as a songwriter, performer or vocalist, but the diminishing space the industry holds for women after they 'age out' at 25.” Eighteen is a statement lyrically and musically that these rock n rollers are only just getting started.

Be sure to give Eighteen a listen today before Loretta Miller and Ruby Jones officially release the track this Friday (September 2), and bring it to the live stage by combining their respective bands (Ruby Jones and JAZZPARTY) for a double headline supergroup single launch on September 17th at The Curtin Bandroom.
