After dropping a couple of singles over the last couple of years, Naarm art-rockers Kino Motel have announced their debut album Visions with their giving us their fuzzy, riff-filled grungy new single Repeater, which alongside its offbeat & engaging music video is premiering on Pilerats a day ahead of release.
The pair of Rosa Mercedes (bass, vocals, synth), and Ed Fraser (guitar, vocals, synth) crafted Visions across their two homes - Melbourne and Berlin, with each space no doubt contributing a different vibe and feeling to the recording. With an emphasis on space, mood and feeling while keeping songwriting at the forefront, Repeater is our first taste of Kino Motel’s debut record.
Channeling the golden era of early 90s slacker grunge vibes with a more experimental compositional approach, Repeater crafts a deep, lush wall of sound that pulls the listener into Kino Motel’s world of swirling synths, laidback bass lines, commanding drums and fuzzy, pleasingly feedback-featuring guitars. Rosa’s effortless & alluring vocals are the cherry on top before the overdriven psychedelic freakout instrumental climax - all while clocking in at just under three minutes.
Meanwhile the music video, shot on location in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, features a loose narrative that sees the pair exploring the small town, with settings ranging from arcades to second hand clothing stores and beachside locales.
To celebrate the release to Repeater, Kino Motel will be playing launch shows in Melbourne and Ballarat on Fridays January 12 and 19 respectively - see below for more details and give Repeater a spin and watch a day before it drops.
