Listen: Pangs - Whole Wide World

Pangs are straight out of the beating rock heart of America, Nashville.

Pangs may only be two songs deep, Already Dead / Whole Wide World, but their scuzzy riffs and easy-going hooks are something to latch onto. Emerging from a rich history of Rock 'n' Roll in Nashville, Tennessee it'd be easy to slip them into that realm. But they seem have more in common with the California and Beach Boys when you hear the ooh's and ahh's mixed in with the sunny mood of the track. Slipping into the lyrics about chasing girls around the tropics, albeit a common thread of popular music, it just fits so easily into the Beach Boys idea. However, it isn't all about California because the real lo-fi element adds an energetic feel that tones down the overt pop sensibility of the track. And in the end the lyrics of lying on the beach in the middle of heatwave seem totally possible. Nice one Pangs.
