Premiere: Watch the spectacular video for Grace Turner's newest single, Dead Or Alive
It comes ahead of a bunch of east-coast tour dates for Newcastle rising star, including RAAVE TAPES' Shut Down the Cambridge this weekend.
In case you're yet to be acquainted, Grace Turner is one of the many rising stars to come out of Newcastle over the last year or so. Her latest single, Dead Or Alive, is a warm and fuzzy, guitar-driven ballad that draws on the emotional side of songwriting, following suit from her 2017 single Angry in its vulnerable and alluring sound that distances her from the rest of the at-times, very over-saturated Australian indie pack. With a bunch of tour dates to come over the next two months - including RAAVE TAPES' huge Shut Down The Cambridge show, we're stoked to premiere the touching video for Dead Or Alive, which as you're about to see, is all about human connection through the means of group hugs.
"The film clip was made with close friend and extremely talented filmmaker Thomas Hudson in Newcastle. After meeting with Tom and talking over the song I realised the essential element of the song was about good friends helping us through dark times," she said on the video clip. "On shoot day we invited a bunch of our friends over to Tom’s house and literally hugged one another for around 10 hours. The idea was that it would reflect the way our social circles help us through hard times as well as be intense, suffocating and the facts that relationship breakdowns are often the reason for ones unravelling. It was intoxicating and very intense. We all left on an exhausted high, like we had experienced something very unique and intimate with one another. A ‘dead or alive’ cult was formed someone joked."
"Another interesting factor was that a few close friends told me they thought this was an interesting concept for me as I am known to be quite reserved and keep to myself," she continues. This made me realise that this song has been a massive shift for me personally and creatively. Anyone who has known my music over the years I am sure would say the same. In the end, Tom and I feel we captured what we had intended." Watch the clip below, and make sure you catch her on the following dates at the end of the article - according to RAAVE TAPES' Joab Eastley, it's an "incredibly captivating" show.
