Outkast, Tiga, George Michael: The Avalanches' runway-ready tunes

Outkast, Tiga, George Michael: The Avalanches' runway-ready tunes

The Australian legends will be playing Melbourne Museum on March 1st for the Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Having spent much of their musical lives searching through song after song for samples, it wouldn't surprise me if The Avalanches have more music knowledge than any other act in Australia. Perhaps because of this, their DJ sets are among the world's most memorable and anticipated; they don't happen often, but when they do, you can expect a trip through the ages, from the early disco days of the 1970s right through to the acid-house of the mid-00s, leaving no era unturned as they trawl from their collections. This Friday, they'll be throwing down one of their legendary DJ sets at the Melbourne Museum, soundtracking Nocturnal x Melbourne Fashion - a music/fashion hybrid during Melbourne Fashion Week that'll see the launch of a new fashion exhibition paired with performances by The Avalanches, Kaiit, Chela and more.

In celebration, the Australian duo have put together a playlist of runway-ready tunes that show off their musical versatility, uniting Outkast, George Michael and Tiga with Animal Collective, Weezer and more. There's a whole lot of goodness in there and puts together a taste of what to expect on the night, so dive into it all below, and then grab your tickets to the show HERE.

The Avalanches' Runway-Ready Tunes:

Brigitte Bardot - Contact

Former French model turned pop star, Brigitte Bardot’s bizarre song Contact. This song was written by Serge Gainsbourg. The video is pretty wild!

High Fashion - Love

Smooth funk jam by High Fashion is sure to get you in the mood.

Outkast - Bowtie

Crocodile on my feet, fox fur on my back, bowtie ‘round my neck.

George Michael - Freedom! ‘90

I remember when this came out and how huge it was. These supermodels were like rockstars and having them all in this video was so cool. Song is so great too.

Betty Davis - Steppin In Her I Miller shoes

The awesome and stylish Betty Davis steppin out in some I Millers.

Prince - Rasberry Beret

Amazing song and video. Simply genius.

Tiga - Sunglasses At Night

Tiga’s cover of the Corey Hart classic taking me back to the Honky Tonks dance floor.

Animal Collective - Summertime Clothes

A track from one of my favourite records ever, Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Weezer - Undone — The Sweater Song

Huge rock anthem from the 90’s!

Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy

As far as I’m aware, the only song about one of the most daring fashion trends of all time. Rhinestones on cowboy clothing. Genius.
