The Most Controversial Album Covers of the 21st Century

As usual, nudity, sexuality and religious taboos fuelled the free publicity generated around these iconic pieces of album artwork since 2000

It speaks volumes on society’s true values when it comes to what is considered really offensive. One would think that death and violence would top that list, but with children being raised on that from a young age, that’s clearly not the case.

Instead, what truly offends pearl clutchers usually boils down to a few things, the most common of which is nudity, particularly in regards to sexuality. The other hot button topic? Religion of course.

It comes as no surprise that those two topics are what dominates this list - in fact only one is directly related to religion, with the rest all regarding the former, so dive into this list of the most controversial album art released in the last few decades from the likes of The Strokes, Kanye West, Death Grips, Arca, The Weeknd and more.
