'Gala x Shinjuku' by Curbside Collection
The WA-based label goes deep in Japan.
Having become a regular feature on the site, there is no doubting the incredible talent that is Cody Roberts and his team at Curbside Collection. He’s just recently come back from Japan, where he spent three months getting amongst a country that is at the forefront of progression in fashion and technology. He now shares with us some of his latest from the journal “Shinjuku x Gala” highlighting Curbside's ever-ethereal work, focussing on fashion, art and lifestyle concepts through photography.
Cody travelled Japan with his camera top to bottom, ending up in Tokyo. In his last three days in Japan, he set up base in the well-known cultural hotspot Shinjuku. With a suitcase full of threads from Perth-based label Gala Apparel, he met up with model Leilan who he met on Instagram just a few weeks prior. They made their way around some of Shinjuku’s many hidden back alleys and rooftops. With the district being a high concentration area full of entertainment, bars, restaurants and shopping, it is constantly glowing making it hard to tell these photos were actually taken at night.
“I have always had a keen obsession with Japanese heritage and even more so in later years with the art, design and fashion that is coming out of there. It’s perfect for photographers actually, there is always a mild haze between the sun and the earth, so the light is always mottled and soft. I can't get enough of it.”
