Framed: Kristen Liu-Wong

Framed: Kristen Liu-Wong

The vibrant, visually confronting work of illustrator Kristen Liu-Wong.

Kristen Liu-Wong is an artist based in Los Angeles, with a background in illustration developed through her studies at the Pratt Institute. Her work is colourful and geometric, filled with heavily detailed elements that fill every corner of their frame. Conceptually, it challenges superficial depictions of women in art that have historically focused on innocence, naivety and purity, with female subjects existing solely for aesthetic. Instead, Liu-Wong portrays scenes of violence and gore in irrational scenes that explore a darker side of human nature, paired with fantasy.
