Marvel unveils five new trailers at San Diego Comic Con
Five new Marvel titles to look forward to get brand new trailers.
Not ones to be denied, Marvel Comics have quickly emerged at this year's San Diego Comic Con to cement themselves as the true MVPs of the Convention, releasing five brand new looks at five exciting new projects from the pop culture powerhouse. Inarguably winning the battle between themselves and DC Comics, Marvel Comics manage to pull Netflix and FX onto their side, with four new television series from the Marvel Entertainment empire set for release over the next year. But, of course, the films aren't set to go anywhere anytime soon.
Doctor Strange
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and expected to be released November 4 this year, Marvel are hoping Doctor Strange will be the next mega-hit film to emerge from their pantheon of comic book favourites. Focusing on the story of Stephen Strange, Doctor Strange will tap into the Marvel Universe's mystic, magical underworld, and with direction from Scott Derickson (director of horrors Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil and The Exorcism of Emily Rose), the film will be a tremendous continuation for fans and Marvel Comics in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Third Phase. Not to mention, as fans of the comics will know, Doctor Strange has long been considered to be one of the Marvel Universe's most powerful heroes. And that Benedict Cumberbatch sure is charming.
Legion
A unique partnership between US Television channel FX and Marvel Comics is preparing to unleash this series in 2017, titled Legion. Based on the X-Men character of the same name (in the comic books, Legion is son of Professor Charles Xavier, leader of the X-Men), the mutant anti-hero is a unique choice by the pairing for coverage, but nonetheless this first glimpse of the series certainly cannot be accused of not looking promising.
Marvel's Luke Cage
Netflix's next on-deck is the African-American former convict, superhero Luke Cage, who uses his superhuman strength and invulnerability to kick serious bad guy ass through New York City. Previous Netflix/Marvel focus point Jessica Jones has always maintained a close relationship with Cage in the comic book universe, and word is that the Marvel Television Universe has no interest in changing that for their adaptations. Plus, the Luke Cage story comes at a perfect time for American culture given recent regrettable developments, and it's hard not to root for a series that utilises Wu Tang's Ol' Dirty Bastard for a trailer soundtrack. Or is that just me?
Marvel's Iron Fist
Iron Fist is a little bit like Batman's Bruce Wayne meeting the previously mentioned Doctor Strange, promising much mystery and mysticism, to go along with martial arts action and some of Marvel's best storytelling. Following the adventures of Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, Marvel fans will be rejoicing at news of this adaptation via Netflix and Marvel Comics given Iron Fist's longtime cult following. it certainly looks intriguing thanks to this new teaser.
Marvel's The Defenders
Marvel and Netflix are going to cash in all of their cheques in 2017, combining their two previous hits Daredevil and Jessica Jones with the upcoming Luke Cage and Iron Fist for this, The Defenders. While this teaser trailer seems to take the concept of teasing particularly seriously, not offering a great deal of information, if nothing else it goes to prove that Netflix and Marvel Comics can really pull together a great soundtrack for their trailers. Nirvana? Get outta here.
