Across the last few years particularly, Australia's gotten quite the reputation at Austin music festival institution SXSW. It's a place where artists can make-or-break international careers, with a handful of our own - G Flip and Stella Donnelly particularly - walking away from the festival (often an Australian artist's first, non-NZ international show) with international attention everywhere from The New York Times to Rolling Stone, and label deals with some of the world's most esteemed companies.

Perhaps as a result, the number of Australians making their way to Austin each year has seemingly increased ten-fold. Once, Australian artists would litter the lineup here and there; but nowadays, it seems like we've got a stronghold of the international market, with just as many Australian musicians featuring across SXSW's week of music than that of the US and UK - a hint of the increasing brilliance of the country musically, and how far we've come over the past few years in presenting top-tier talent regardless of talent.

In 2020, this is no different. This morning marked the arrival of SXSW's first list of musical performers and among them, are a collection of acts amongst the country's best. Alex The Astronaut and Ali Barter lead the billing, while Baker Boy, Hachiku, Mojo Juju, Approachable Members Of Your Local Community, Perth's own Carla Geneve and Ruby Boots, plus a tonne of others - 16 acts in total, to be precise - join them.
