Premiere: Gold Coast's Hanlon Brothers bring the R&B groove on Solar

With a sound comparable to Anderson .Paak and GoldLink, the trio's soulful, rap-infused R&B groove is one to watch.

Over the last few years, we've witnessed somewhat of an explosion of top-tier Australian hip-hop, whether that be on a local level with more and more acts rising among the ranks every day, to internationally, where acts like Tkay Maidza are beginning to dominate. Gold Coast's Hanlon Brothers, a three-piece mastering in a soulful blend of hip-hop and R&B, is an act more-so on the former level but with the potential to grow into the latter, finding an accessible and easily-digestible sound as they mend together elements of R&B, hip-hop, soul and jazz for a nostalgic sound brought forward into the future.

Solar, their new single, is a prime example of this. Above a woozy production, MC Ruka and vocalist Omar Hanlon alternate between each other, combining their strengths in rap and R&B respectively for a single that balances the best of both, channelling comparisons to names including Anderson .Paak and perhaps some of GoldLink's more down-tempo and R&B-inspired work. Over the last few years, the trio have cemented themselves as a real live force amongst the Queensland R&B scene, but Solar - and their forthcoming debut EP of the same name - is set to do this in recording too, and it's making us damn excited to see what's in store. Dive into the single below, and stay tuned for more to come across the next few months.
