On last week's episode of Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener's Beats 1 radio show OTHERtone, Vener asks Williams and guest Flying Lotus about the state of hip hop in 2016, and it's fantastic viewing. They touch upon the oft-discussed nature of the timeless nature of music in the current digital age. Music now sometimes seen so of-the-moment - it feels like Drake always has one eye on how meme-able his next release will be, for instance. And to hear as skilled a producer like Flying Lotus discuss it with a guy like Pharrell Williams, who's been around the traps for a fucking long time and knows what's up, is engrossing viewing.
