Winston Surfshirt share soulful new single, Ali D

The Sydney six-piece share the new single ahead of their forthcoming Australia-wide tour, which includes a spot at Splendour In The Grass.

Emerging earlier this year with the down-tempo debut Be About You, Sydney-based six-piece Winston Surfshirt are quickly becoming one of 2017's biggest break-outs, signing to Sweat It Out and Astral People, copping numerous plays on triple j and Beats 1, and selling out dates on their debut national tour (which includes a slot at Splendour this year) all in their first six months on the circuit. After tantalising with a cheeky cover of J Dilla's So Far To Go last month, the group have now launched a tasty second single in Ali DAli D continues the down-tempo groove of their debut but in a slightly more electronic fashion, combining laid-back guitar with moody, retro-sounding synth work and upbeat percussion which keeps the track moving. Ali D has this really laid-back feel to it, almost as if it was recorded on the fly in a jam session between recordings, that makes the track have this easily-repeatable nature to it which we're really digging.

With their debut single turning the heads of names including Elton John and Zane Lowe, following up their debut record put a touch of pressure on the six-piece, something that their frontman Winston himself relays - "It’s a daunting thought putting out a follow up single to our first Be About You, Ali D seemed like the perfect option from what was sitting in the pocket. She’s kind of like a big sister to [Be About You], gives you the same sort of feeling and she’ll make you dance when you don’t want to." Listen to the track below:
