Things I Learnt: Chet Faker Live

Chet Faker backs up a massive year chart-wise with the live show.

Chet Faker had hit Sydney for a double date at the Hordern Pavilion recently as part of his 2015 national tour, so we sent our man in Sydney down to check him out. He came back with some very positive results:

CHET LOVES A GOOD COVER

I mean one of his biggest singles is a cover, No Diggity, and throughout 2014 he was covering Jeff Buckley’s I Need Someone Badly for excellent results. And then there was his cover of Burial’s Archangel. Despite his Like A Version of Sonia Dada’s Lover (You Don’t Treat Me No Good) getting a miss he did drop a sparkling rendition of Van Morrison’s Moondance.

HIS BEARD GAME IS ALWAYS ON-POINT

If beards could sing then Chet’s beard would have a career that would rival the man himself. It’s gotten to the extent that you can mention to someone, ‘Do you vibe with that bearded dude?’ and they’ll reply, ‘Chet Faker? Yeah he’s the fucking man.’ Such is the power of Chet’s beard and man it was on magnificent display at the Hordern.

ADDING A LIVE BAND TO HIS SOUND IS THE SONIC EQUIVALENT OF GOLD

And on the topic of Gold wooahey people were swooning left and right. But seriously when Chet brings out his man on bass and his drummer (who kills it HERE) it just adds a whole new layer to his performance. There isn’t much to critique when it’s just Chet but there is audible improvement when that live element is added.

SIZE DOESN'T MATTER

I’ve been a long-time fan of Chet; I’ve seen him bust out amazing sets in the Sydney Opera House, at Southbound in WA, in a tiny Boiler Room lineup, some major festivals, his own shows and EVERY single time he brings the fire. The Hordern Pavilion was no different.

SPONTANEOUS NUDITY WILL HAPPEN AROUND HIM

Chet did it in Adelaide (below for evidence) and he did it in Sydney. Albeit this time some old guy got his wanger out but hey, good work Chet.
