Premiere: Kult Kyss return with vivid new single, I Am One

It's their first single as a duo since Water Baby, which was released back in April.

Composed of Haxx and recent LUCIANBLOMKAMP collaborator Rromarin, Melbourne electronic duo Kult Kyss are one of Australian electronic's most eccentric and intriguing names. After making their name last year with their bouncy debut single Get Up Boy and their ever-popular rework (and Presets approved) of The Presets' epic This Boy's In Love, the pairing have had a relatively quiet name, focussing on their solo careers and only uniting for Water Baby back in April. Now they return with one last single before the year's out, continuing to explore their characteristically upbeat and house-infused sound for the teasing I Am One. It's more of a dark and brooding affair than their previous work, with Rromarin's vocals in particular feeling quite sombre in the single's verses – which are layered underneath a driving, percussive production.

They're definitely doing something quite unique in Australian electronic in that they balance on that fine line between chilled-out mellow electronica and the more clubby side, with the clanging, somewhat ravey I Am One perfectly demonstrating this. The pulsing bassline keeps things lively and interesting, but there's still a lot of restraint there – particularly in the song's chorus – which stops things from going all-out banger (not that we'll be against that).
