Four songs down and an album teaser to boot but What Went Down still isn’t out. However, Jagwar Ma are easing the pain with a space-bass like remix of Mountain At My Gates. The sense of calm at the beginning of the track starts out like Spanish Sahara. The drums are the first to challenge the tranquility with thick reverb oozing before Philippakis’s vocals signal the beginning of the end. It then all melds into a interstellar space rave. But like the best Foals’s songs it teases a false drop. And a majestic organ begins to play, creating a momentary sense of peace. Then the real magic comes as Jagwar Ma lets the track go wild. Highlighting a perfect example of how remixes can work with Jagwar Ma mashing their pysch-rock with dance sensibilities twist with the raw energy of Foals to craft this whacked out take on Mountain At My Gates.
Foals’s fourth album What Went Down comes out this Friday, they’re headlining Southbound / Falls over 2015/16 and while this wasn’t published in their interview Foals confirmed Jagwar Ma are working on their second album.
