Introducing Kah-Lo and her vibrant new future-R&B jam, Fasta
A future-star is born, straight outta Nigeria and onto radio waves all over the world.
Riton's ubiquitos banger Rinse & Repeat was a huge tune in 2015, and now the feature vocalist on it - Kah-Lo - is ready to take over the world on her own. Fasta is her recently-released first solo single (with Riton still helping out on production duties), and it's definitely the announcement of a future star. It's upbeat, energetic, and really damn exciting. We sent her a few questions to get to know her a little better - check it all out below:
Tell us about about yourself?
Well, my name is Kah-Lo but my real name is Faridah. I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, but now I split my time between London, Lagos and New York, and I make music.
What kinda tunes we talkin’?
I don't really like to box myself into one genre because I love so many different types and styles of music but at the moment, I guess you could say it's dance music. Electronic dance music with a little Afrobeats twist.
Production/writing process:
I prefer to write alone in my downtime or while I’m commuting. But I'm always down to collaborate with producers in the studio. Sometimes - especially working with Riton - I'll end up writing in the studio with him while he creates a beat and I write to whatever is looping at that time.
Can you tell us about your new single/video clip, Fasta?
Riton played me a beat that reminded me of a game I used to play in primary school, and I just wrote around that. It's changed a bit from when we first worked on it but when I heard this version, I said to him "Don't change a thing!" The foot work in the video is my spin on how the game is played. The video is really high energy and was so much fun to shoot. I got to travel to Toronto to work with the director Sammy Rawal and I definitely burned a lot of calories that day!
Any shows coming up?
I just did a few festival shows across the UK with Riton, it was such a great experience. I'm super excited to be doing some solo shows soon though, so keep an eye on my socials for more details when they're released.
What’s the rest of the year have in store?
More shows, more music, more everything. I'm really excited for whatever happens next.
Where can we hear more of your music?
