Tour Diary: Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers

Tour Diary: Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers

Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are having one hell of a 2023, but they’re well deserved success is anything but overnight. We first met the four-piece four years ago with their single Desk Chair, when they were beginning their ascent, having just played BIGSOUND, Falls Festival and being a triple j Unearthed feature artist.

Fast forward to 2023 and their highly anticipated and long-awaited debut album I Love You is finally here, with the wait being more than worth it as the record has received nearly universal praise, and sees the band making the huge transition from Unearthed feature artist to triple j feature album.

Following a string of awesome singles, I Love You packs 12 tracks of incredibly addictive sounds that range from more tender, downtempo and poignant sounds like Never Saw It Coming, through to the rollicking Lights Out. From driving punk rock to irresistible bubblegum pop, I Love You covers a lot of ground while remaining a cohesive listen from start to finish, showcasing the band’s evolution.

With TJ&TJT currently wrapping up a national tour with DMA’S ahead of their own Australian headline shows, we checked in with the band as they took us behind the scenes with a tour diary:

Us about to play our absolute DREAM venue on the 3rd show of the DMA’s tour at the Forum in Melbourne !! Literally seconds away from peeing our pants with excitement.

Post Wanderer Festival set. If you look really closely Jaida has alien eyes. We’d all gone a bit crazy by this point in the night. And thought it was the funniest photo.

Cockroach on toothbrush at Jaida and Neve’s house in Wollongong in the middle of rehearsal week.  I repeat, cockroach on toothbrush!!!

Us before our set at Wanderer festival in Merimbula. We ate a grand total of 30 oysters in one day, we were so horny. Oysters were 11/10. Highly recommend. Would eat again.

Wollongong beach time with our Teen Jesus mascot zippo. This was in the middle of a rehearsal week in preparation for a run of DMA’s shows. We were working pretty hard so decided to have some much needed beach time.

More Zippo content with some Anna kisses! This was also taken mid rehearsal week. Zippo kept the morale very high and provided lots of emotional support.

Sauna time before our first ever Wodonga show. The temperature was set far too high and all our jewellery started burning. Self care is a must on tour!

This was at our Wollongong album signings at Music Farmers record shop. We decided to make ourselves a little bit prettier. I think we showed off our artistic skills really well!

Jaida looking at a fish floor at a hotel in Sydney . It was a very strange art feature in the foyer. Nemo was unfortunately not located.

Anna getting some pre-show medical attention. We all got a really awful flu just before a run of shows and tried everything in our power to get better fast. Anna had a nurse come to the house and got a medicinal drip! Not sure if it worked properly but fortunately we’re all better now.
