Video Premiere: Skunkhour - Rain On Me (Live)

Ahead of their upcoming Australian tour, Aussie funk alt-rockers deliver an intimate, stripped back live rendition of their latest single - take a first watch

We’ve been loving the resurgence of Skunkhour here at Pilerats, first when we premiered their 2022 single Blue, followed by them walking us through their come back EP, Parts of The Sun.

They’ve continued this energy into 2023, as heard on recent single Rain On Me, which today they’ve unveiled an intimate, semi-acoustic, live loungeroom session version of the song, premiering on Pilerats today.

Retaining the groove-laden rhythm section vibes of the studio original, the live take of Rain On Me sees the band slowing the tempo down ever so slightly and subbing in electronic drums for acoustic, while leaving plenty of room for vocalists Aya & Del Larkin to shine through.

Speaking on the live version, the band explains “With the tour dates approaching, and in support of the single,  we thought we’d try something different and do a semi-acoustic “live in the lounge room“version excursion. We linked up with our great friend Ray Lalotoa to capture it. He does a lot of our graphics and directed the killer “Blue” video from last year.

We set up at Aya’s place in Coogee,  then just jammed and messed with it for a while, dropped the tempo a touch to make it a little more slinky, and used the electronic drum pads to keep that slightly 80s electro crunch of the recording. It’s the first time we’ve ever attempted a live take for video purposes…We had fun presenting the track this way and are stoked with the results."
