Indie rock duo Salarymen certainly live up to the work ethic of the colloquialism that inspired their name.
After heading around Japan last year, releasing their latest single Echoes earlier this year, having just wrapped up their national tour with Royel Otis and ahead of playing a number of festival towards the end of the year (including showcasing at SXSW Sydney), they’ve readied their latest single Second Sight which alongside its cute & feelgood music video is premiering on Pilerats today.
A synth-led cut of atmospheric indie rock, Second Sight pairs irresistible harmonies with addictive melodies, taking cues from the likes of Teenage Dads, The Strokes and War on Drugs.
The duo explain: "This track is essentially about having a good bullshit radar - seeing through the social climbers and the manipulators. It’s an essential skill everyone has to learn, but especially musicians navigating an unforgiving industry. Sometimes you need to learn the hard way, so you can dodge a bullet in the future”
Meanwhile, the film clip features handicam footage from their shows in Tokyo and Osaka, juxtaposed with footage from their home in Sydney, directed by long-time collaborator Todd Stephen Logan and resulting in a charming, nostalgic music video.
Check out Second Sight a day ahead of release, and see below for all Salarymen’s upcoming tour dates:
