Premiere: Paulina - Maybe We're Running

Award-winning 18-year-old Meanjin/Brisbane singer-songwriter delivers epic & emotional new ballad

Following up her win at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards for the Youth Award, 18-year-old German-born, Meanjin/Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Paulina has readied her emotional & engrossing new single, Maybe We're Running, out June 16 but premiering on Pilerats today!

Effortlessly fusing soulful, atmospheric folk with downtempo pop sounds, Maybe We're Running is an epic, building affair, opening with restrained guitar strums and Paulina's ethereal vocals, before twinkling keys enter the mix alongside understated drums, gaining momentum to the track's epic conclusion and atmospheric resolution.

Lyrically grappling with some heavy themes, Paulina explains "It was a real punch in the gut when Roe v. Wade was overturned in the US last year, stripping women of their reproductive rights. Even though I live in Australia, far away from those restrictive laws, it makes you question your power as a woman, anywhere. Could this too one day happen here in Australia? Why are there still so many people who don't care about women's voices? As a woman and a human being on this planet, I think it's powerful to sing loudly about all of this. And I hope you can sing with me too, even louder."

Keep your eyes peeled for an accompanying music video over the coming weeks, but for now give Maybe We're Running a spin a day ahead of release!
