Premiere: Meet BEACH PANIC! and their new one, Dance Till Your Feet Bleed

The Melbourne-based group will share their debut EP, Ride The Tiger, in September.

Part Yacht Club DJs, part DZ Deathrays; BEACH PANIC! are a Melbourne-based trio specialising in this jangly dance-rock both high in energy and flavour - something showcased on their debut single, June's Tsunami of Love, and its ability to twist and turn between punchy guitar riffs and catchy rhythms that really set themselves a part. As members of emo/post-hardcore band Belle Haven, BEACH PANIC! is a project that allows the pairing to explore the heavy rhythms and fierceness of their old band but twisted into a direction that feels a little more approachable and colourful; dominating guitar riffs placed side-by-side with catchy choruses and soft grooves for quite a multi-dimensional and complex sound.

Since sharing Tsunami of Love a few months back, eyes have been focused on what they'll be doing next, something we can share today with the Pilerats-premiered Dance Till Your Feet Bleed. As the title suggests, Dance Till Your Feet Bleed is a high-octane return that further deepens their party-rock sound, solidifying comparisons to bands like the aforementioned DZ Deathrays as they signal an exciting future. Speaking of, there's also a new EP incoming titled Ride The Tiger, which with its arrival in late-September, is sure to deepen our knowledge of what exactly BEACH PANIC! showcase through their music beyond their introduction. Then, there's also shows planned through October and beyond (which you'll read more about in just a second).

In the meantime, however, dive into Dance Till Your Feet Bleed below, and better get to know BEACH PANIC! while you're at it:

Tell us about yourself?

BEACH PANIC is Daddy Long Legs, Dr. M. Flamingo and Tequila Sunrise.

We are a surf-inspired punk-rock art project from Melbourne. Made up of two musicians and a visual artist, all living under the same roof, all adopting alter-ego monickers, blurring the lines of what a band is, BEACH PANIC! is our platform to create art across all mediums, sonically and visually. Some would call it DIY but we just call it creating art.

What’s the vibe music-wise?

We consider ourselves surf-inspired punk-rock; we are heavily influenced by all rock music from 50s do-wop to the late 60s and 70s psychedelia to the dirty punk-rock of the 90s and mid-2000s. Bringing all these together results in something that sounds familiar but has quirks, twists and turns along the way.

Our themes range mostly around Love, the power it holds over us, the dichotomy of fear and joy that can at any moment tear you down or fill you with such elation the ONLY solution is to grab your baby and dance the night away.

What are your production and writing processes like?

Writing is one of our favourite parts of the process. We are constantly jamming together, testing the waters sonically and seeing what we can get away with when writing cheeky/quirky lyrics. Trying to one-up ourselves constantly is our favourite game to play, at its core the one question we ask ourselves when writing is “How much does this make me want to dance?”. We demo everything at our home studio, where we make all our art and content. Lovingly dubbed “The Beach House” (Smack bang in the middle of northern Melbourne suburbia) it is our little slice of paradise.

With our first release, we recorded it with our long-time friend Christopher Vernon of the Emo/Metalcore band Belle Haven, in which the members of BEACH PANIC! are also members of.

Can you tell us about your new single, Dance Till Your Feet Bleed?

The title of the song says it all. One of the first songs we wrote that shaped the sound of BEACH PANIC! and gave us all the eerie feeling that we are onto something special here. Combining their punk rock roots and desire to shake some hips. The song’s lyrics are the epitome of lovesick. With lines such as “I’m completely obsessed with the idea, LOVE”. The song tells a story of desperation and intoxication for the feeling of falling in love. Sometimes it can be so overwhelming that the only remedy is too simply Dance Till’ Your Feet Bleed.

What does 2019 have in store for you?

We will be releasing our debut EP RIDE THE TIGER next month.

We are currently planning our DEBUT performance in Melbourne slated for October, to start this wild ride off with a bang. Performance is our passion and making our shows an experience is integral to the Art Project.

We are still bursting from the seams with ideas and projects in mind so expect even MORE new music right around the corner.

Where can we find more of your music?

You can find all our music on all your streaming services and hopefully after you listen, you can find it at the bottom of your heart.
