Premiere: NSW hotshots Debbies unveil new song Money, debut EP out next week

The Jervis Bay duo will soon tour the east-coast as they share their debut EP, Accidents Happen, next week.

In case you haven't caught on yet, New South Wales duo Debbies are a group that's been teetering on the edge of a national break-out for the longer side of around two years now. The Jervis Bay duo - plucked from New South Wales' south coast - originally made a strong-armed debut with a trio of singles back in 2019; Comfort ZoneWhat Do I Know and Majority Of My Time being a hat-trick of songs that placed them amongst our ones to watch in 2020 list - a sentiment shared by acts like Waaves and BUGS, who were quick to cotton on to the duo's rise.

They became renowned for an explosive live show that captured energy beyond their years, and even in 2020 - a year where they couldn't showcase this perhaps as much as they'd originally planned - they still managed to bring excitement with everything they did. They played a few shows here and there before things grounded to a halt back in March last year, and in their singles, they brought the energy and excitement of their live show to the recorded format, as shown in Waking Up In L.A. and again in Influencer and Radio.

Now, things are back on track in 2021, and we're kicking it all off with the premiere of their latest single Money today. Money is a thrashing three-minutes that feels like a snapshot of what's to come, full of rushing guitar riffs and pacing percussion that moves amongst these kind-of relaxed yet reflective vocals; ones which carry a bit of a message behind them but are delivered in a way that doesn't make it too heavy to listen to, disguising the layers that the song really holds.

"We pretty much just wanted to write a song that shit talked about how money isn't as good as it seems," the duo say on the single. "We put this with the idea of someone who’s battling their own money problems within a relationship that they're sinking their money into, and a really cool conversion esque song came out of it… at least we think it’s cool haha."

As we teased, Money's premiere today is a bit of a prelude for what's incoming. The full single is out this coming Friday, while next Friday - February 5th - will welcome Debbies' debut EP Accidents Happen, which is finally getting a release after what feels like a long-winding glow-up for a duo that's been 10/10 since their beginning. There's also a couple of shows too; Debbies breaking in their debut EP with dates in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Wollongong and Sydney throughout February.

Have a listen to Money below, stay tuned for the debut EP to hit your ears next week, and check out the tour dates underneath too - you can get your tickets for those shows here
