IV League sent us the Ultimate Girl Power playlist to celebrate new single, Sylvia

The alt-pop four-piece have a heap of shows coming up too.

Alt-poppin' four-piece IV League had a ripper 2016 following the release of breakout single, Bleached, a track that brought them right up to the front of the Aussie indie scene. And after sell-out single launches and big supports for the likes of Harts and British India, IV League are ready to march forth much the same in 2017 with new single, Sylvia, and the announcement they'll be joining Ali Barter (who just happens to be our Guest Editor THIS WEEK) on her upcoming Australian album. To celebrate these multiple momentous ocassions, lead singer Bella Venutti made us the ultimate girl power playlist, featuring a heap of tracks that inspired their new single, and which she goes into a lot more, below:

GIRL POWER - SONGS THAT INSPIRED SYLVIA

1. Bros – Wolf Alice

When I first heard this song it really resonated with me lyrically, it encompasses feeling invincible and taking solace in a friendship from the outside world.

2. Kool Thing – Sonic Youth

Kim Gordon’s book, 'Girl In A Band', really inspired my to keep going as a female musician when I was on the brink of throwing the towel in; ETERNALLY grateful for this insane and timeless band.

3. Miss World – Hole

Listening to Courtney Love as a child, for me sparked the idea that there is truly nothing cooler than a woman with a guitar who won't take shit from anybody. This album is god.

4. Treats – INHEAVEN

Just discovered these guys recently, the sentiment in this song is so simple yet effective and I’m a huge sucker for the Nirvana vibes in that chord progression and guitar solo.

5. Double Dare Ya – Bikini Kill

This song gives me serious chills, as a teenager watching Kathleen Hanna utter the famous words “all girls to the front” on a live recording and discovering Riot Grrl was kind of the turning point of my young life.

6. Your Best American Girl – Mitski

This song is a melancholic delight; Mitski is my go to lady when I need to let my heart bleed.

7. Into the White – The Pixies

I recently went to see the Pixies live, and while Kim Deal isn’t performing with them any more *tear*, they closed with this song and I lost my shit.

8. When You Sleep – My Bloody Valentine

I listen to the album this track comes from, Loveless, pretty much every day, nobody does wall of sound like MBV do.

9. You’re Not the One – Sky Ferreira

Pure pop brilliance! I love Skye’s aesthetic and agency over her overall image as an artist, can’t wait to hear new music from her.

10. Romeo – Chairlift

I adore Chairlift so much, and I think Caroline Polacheck is one of the best live vocalists/dancers alive.

11. Girlie Bits – Ali Barter

We are so excited to hit the road with this amazing lady, she’s doing such wonderful things for feminism in the Oz music scene and this track is huge.

12. Everybody Wants To Love You – Japanese Breakfast

This song makes me want to stick my head out of a car window driving down a freeway and have an indie movie moment.

13. Dreaming – Blondie

Debbie Harry is my queen in all senses of the word and inspires not only a lot of my vocal performance but growing collection of berets.

14. Not Gonna Kill You  Angel Olsen

This woman is a powerhouse, and her Roy Orbison-esque vocals make me swoon every time.

15. Beaches – Gabriella Cohen

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Gabriella live a few times and it was such a joyful experience, her songs have a really universal quality and I’m a huge fan of the doo-wop vibes.

16. When I’m Tired – Totally Mild

I’m a big believer in the fact that short songs are good songs, and boy does this 1:48 wonder prove it!

17. My Best Friend – Jefferson Airplane

I’m late to my Jefferson Airplane phase but I’m HERE and I’m loving it.

18. “Dear Prudence” – Siouxsie & The Banshees

Every time I listen to this I feel like I’m listening to one of my best gal pals talk me out of a slump. And also like I’m living the dream in 1980.

19. The Fairest Of The Seasons – Nico

Beautiful Nico singlehandedly has my favourite voice of all time and I’m not sure if that will ever change.

20. It’s My Party – Lesley Gore

Who hasn’t cried on their birthday at least once? Lesley was a woman unafraid to unleash her emotions at the soiree and that’s pretty much my mantra in life.
