Get to know She's My You, who just dropped a smooth new electro-pop banger, Gross

An intriguing duet piece featuring newest band member Hannah.

She's My You are a Sydney/Newcastle-based five-piece with an interest in crafting silky smooth electro-pop sounds, none better showcased than on latest single Gross. The track also serves as something of a full-blown welcome for newest band member Hannah, featuring an awesome back-and-forth between her and lead vocalist Toby. "Gross is about wealth exposing people’s vices. I feel like, in a city like Sydney, it’s almost impossible to avoid stepping on the ‘wealth-accumulation needle’ and getting hooked."

It's a big vibe, and we hit the group up to find out a little more, and Toby kindly replied - check it all out below:

Tell us about yourselves?

Toby: She’s My You started out as four mates that couldn’t get enough of music. We had all played together in various outfits throughout high school so when we started writing music together it felt really natural. Out of that our first EP, Take What You Feel, was born and
released in 2018. Hannah originally agreed to play some keys for our EP launch but added so much to our sound that she quickly became our permanent 5th member. Now, based in Sydney, we’re working on a new EP that we are really excited about! SMY is Toby, Nathan, Hannah, Ben and Joey.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

Our music hovers somewhere between synth-pop and electronic-rock. In other words, we’ve got no idea how to label it.

Production/writing process:

The EP that we’re currently working on has been a new experience for us because, unlike our first EP where we had a producer, we have taken on the writing and production from start to finish. It has been a far more insular process, with almost all of the writing and production happening from my bedroom, with the exception of guitars, which were written and tracked in Ben’s bedroom.

Can you tell us about your new single, Gross?

Gross is about the way that wealth can bring out people’s vices. I got a bit of a shock when I moved to Sydney and realised how many people step on the ‘wealth-accumulation needle’ and get hooked.

Any shows coming up?

Yeah!! We’ll fill you in on some Sydney and Newcastle dates on our socials nice and soon.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

We’ve got a music video coming out for Gross in the next few weeks. We also have soooo many songs in the pipeline so we’ll keep chipping away at those and getting the new EP ready for some more releases and shows early next year.

Where can we hear more of your music?

Best bet would be online (Spotify, Apple Music and the rest), at shows or my nan’s living room stereo.
