New Music: How To Dress Well & TALA – The One

How To Dress Well and new flame TALA team up for a new-age take on love.

When big brands; Nike, Adidas and any number of alcohol companies get involved in making sponsored articles it often seems that they lack any real feeling. Adidas and Yours Truly’s (publication company) creation ‘Songs From Scratch’ have bucked this by creating a space to host tracks made by talented artists in a 24 hour timeframe. In the past this has been done with Danny Brown/Araabmuzik and Jeremih/Shlohmo to name a few, and with overwhelmingly good results.

Their latest session has brought together How To Dress Well and TALA for a track called The One, and it has resulted in not one, but two different versions of The One to admire. Arguably the differences are minimal with How To Dress Well’s track slightly longer and more subdued.

If you pause only momentarily to gaze on to this song then take in the gliding choruses of How To Dress Well, the Jersey club-esque breakdowns and the surging darkness amidst the glistening vocals. But as you actually get into the meaning of this song you’ll realize you’re listening to a rather corny love song with lyrics like: ‘When you calling baby/it says The One’ and ‘It takes time to last forever’. It’s hard not to laugh at the pretentious instrumentals when compared to the laid-back nature of the lyrics, but then How To Dress Well has never been one to hold back from belting out cheesy R&B vocals.
