Don't Fuck With Our Dreams

Don't Fuck With Our Dreams

The Smith Street Band's EP is fucking great.

The band's own name is a reference to the street where Wil lived above a Melbourne pub, a personal affair from the start. Singing stories of drunk nights out with friends, lost loves, inner termoil and group hugs there is sure to be one tale that brings up similar memories. Wagner's emphasised pauses and lyrical entaglements are seared into your subconscious like they were there the whole time.

The track Bigger Than Us took on a whole new meaning in the walls of the Pilerats office. A song about coming together as a group to have a positive influence on soceity rather than complaining about the way things are. Fighting battles everyday to keep the dream alive this song brought in fresh life and could actually be the soul reason this new beautiful website is now on your display. This feeling was further enhanced at their Perth tour show when Wil informed the crowd that it was written while he was in Perth about how he was feeling at the time in our city. Spirit level reaching super sayan moshing then ensued. And that is really what you get from this group, a heartfelt and seemingly honest let's have the best fucking time and give life a solid crack.

Note, if he said this in another town feel free to email in and bruise our spirits.

Every song on this 10' seems to pack more punch, fullness and polish then that of the previous album however is missing the variety. But who am I to think that could at all be a negative when the title alone is a pretty good indication of which way the next 25minutes are going to go. The instrumentals are definitely not a secondary notion. They stand up for themselves with some simple but nice sounding guitar hooks that lead you into big choruses and enstill urgency when they want you moving and breathing space when they want you thinking.

These guys are a promising light in the next crop of emerging Australian rock, punk and pub outfits.

A fair chunk of time ago we were lucky enough to have the guys play a gig in the main room of our office. We documented so more good times can be enjoyed by all. You can order the ep online and listen to the title track via their band camp here.
