Perth Festival Unveils 2024 Program

Angélique Kidjo, Sampa The Great, Sampha, Paul Kelly, Courtney Barnett, Greentea Peng, Mogwai many more join the huge contemporary music program

As we enter the warmer months the festival announcements keep rolling, as today Perth Festival unveils its 2024 program. From February 9 to March 3 the festival will take over Boorloo under the theme of Ngaangk. The Noongar term for both mother and the sun, “Ngaangk nourishes everyone and everything that grows and thrives on Noongar Boodjar.”

As always, Perth Fest has delivered a deep and diverse program of contemporary music, film, fine music, literature, performance and visual arts. While we’re fans of all of those things, it probably comes as no surprise that the contemporary music program is of particular interest to us here at Pilerats, and 2024 is no exception.

Beninese-French singer-songwriter, actress, activist and living legend Angélique Kidjo will be playing a very special show at the Perth Concert Hall, as will Aussie icon Paul Kelly. Meanwhile at Supreme Court Gardens, former Kidjo collaborator Sampa The Great and Kaiit form a dope double bill of essential homegrown hip hop, with Sampha also set to take to the gardens.

The Rechabite will once again be a key venue for the festival, with the likes of Courtney Barnett, Cymande (UK), DOMi and JD Beck (France/USA), Greentea Peng (UK), Kings of Convenience (Norway), Lonnie Holley, Moor Mother & Irreversible Entanglements (USA), Michael Rother & Friends (Germany), Mogwai (Scotland) all set to play.

Contemporary Music Programmer Tom Supple said “Once again, we’ve got some of the world’s
leading talent coming to Perth to celebrate our annual festival. They’ll feature alongside heroes of the local scene and some up and coming artists you’ll be glad you were one of the first to discover.

We’re excited to return to The Rechabite in 2024 with a line-up that hits a range of styles and genres, featuring artists that will appeal to the breath of Perth’s amazing music community. Topped off by two of my personal favourites, Sampa The Great and Sampha headlining two huge outdoor shows at Supreme Court Gardens.

I’d encourage audiences to come and see not only their favourite artists but take a chance on someone they’ve never heard of – we’re super excited about every artist in this tightly curated line up and think there is some gold in there for local fans to discover.
