Death By Denim, No Money Enterprise + more: Meet the Aussies playing SXSW 2021

The Texas mega-festival is going all-online in 2021, and there are more Australians than ever on board to celebrate.

Even the biggest festivals are having to undergo major shake-ups to survive the upcoming season, whether it be cancelling or postponing all together - the way forward used by mega-festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza - or shifting things to a digital space to keep the music coming. Texan mega-festival SXSW is included in that; the multi-day hub for culture and entertainment moving completely online for the 2021 program, announcing that every facet of the forthcoming event - networking programs, performances, keynotes - are moving digital (a fair and smart move considering how slammed the US has been by COVID-19).

In the middle of the night, the first list of performers for South by South West's digital festival were announced, and perhaps as a byproduct of the festival's digital scope in 2021, it's loaded with more Australians than ever. Typically, SXSW is a huge affair for a blossoming homegrown act; one that's proved beneficial in break-out international moments numerous times over, worth it despite the huge cost to travel to Austin and set-up for a week's worth of performances. With those travelling expenses gone, the lineup is lush with talent far removed from the US, just find the Australian lineup for example.

Included in the first line up are: Alexander Biggs, Alice Skye, Beans, Death by Denim, Didirri, Indigo Sparke, Kee'ahn, The Merindas, No Money Enterprise and Shannen James; each Australian act being a name littering ones-to-watch lists for a while now, striving in their respective sounds and musical niches. There's also a bit of a New Zealand contingent too, notably Data Animal and Purple Pilgrims, with a full Music New Zealand showcase incoming.

There are some big internationals scattered amongst the ranks too. This year, you'll find English soul force Connie Constance, Toronto legends Holy Fuck, BRONSON collaborator lau.ra and Irish ones-to-watch Pillow Queens, amongst a stack of other names.

This year, the musical side of SXSW runs from March 16 to 20 2021, with more information to come. You can find more information and register to attend via the SXSW website here.
