Introducing Exhibitionist, and her beguiling debut single, Hands

A new member to the TEEF family, and an immensely exciting one at that.

Exhibitionist is a Marrickville-based artist who just signed with the gangalang over at TEEF Records, and her first release with them has us feeling all kinds of ways. She's been a member of Little Scout, Parades and The John Steel Singers in the past, and that said, Hands, was produced by Jonathon Boulet. We sent her a few questions for you to read about whilst streaming the delightful Hands, below:

Tell us about about yourself?

I’m a Sydney-based musician that has talked way too many bands into letting me tour with them in the past. I’ve just released my first single as Exhibitionist and I’m very excited about the project. I drink way too much coffee, and am currently puppy sitting an 8-month old Chihuahua named Burgers.

What kinda music are we talking?

The word electronic has been bandied about a bit, but everything has more or less been played live on the recording. I like to think of Exhibitionist as a pop project.

Production/writing process:

I’ve written every Exhibitionist song in my bedroom so far. I demo the track until I feel like it’s time to let Jono (Boulet) take over recording duties. We then arrange and re-record the entire track and spend a long time searching for synth sounds that are just right. Jono is a really creative mixer, so sometimes I’ll listen back to a revision and be like “Oh my god, where did that incredible sound come from?”

Can you tell us about your new single, Hands?

Hands was the first track I wrote for Exhibitionist. I demoed it in an afternoon and immediately felt like maybe I could turn it into something really beautiful. It took me about two months to write the lyrics, even though they’re so simple. It’s the first time I’ve released something with my own voice so I wanted to make sure what I had to say was worthwhile.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

Lots of recording, and getting a live show together. I am so pumped to take Exhibitionist into the live arena!

Where can we hear more of your music?

We’re recording at the moment, so there will be more music very soon!
