Music Video Premiere: marigolden - Mars

Enjoy the charming new music video for Naarm-based indie-folk rocker’s latest single of catchy, reflective sounds

Hot on the heels of her latest single of emotional alt-folk and indie-rock, Mars, Melbourne’s Mel O’Neill AKA marigolden has readied a captivating, dog-starring music video, premiering on Pilerats today!

Following-up 2021’s well-received Just Like Smoke, a single that got love from community radio, Triple J and online media, marigolden describes Mars by saying “Have you ever felt a bit fed up with humanity? Like everything around you is a bit too hard and you wish you could just scrap it all and start from scratch? That's sort of what 'Mars' is about. The ebb and flow of this feeling is mirrored in the song's structure. Guitar drives the song from a soft, vulnerable start to a climactic full band ending that truly encapsulates the essence of feeling overwhelmed.”

These themes carry over to the music video that opens with marigolden beginning her seemingly normal day with breakfast, before being joined by a four-legged furry friend. Roaming (and dancing through) the streets together, it soon appears that there are no other people around, with marigolden and her new friend seemingly unperturbed and embracing their new found solitude.

Gather your furry friends if you’ve got them, and give Mars a watch as it premieres on Pilerats today.
