Bec Sandridge will never want a boyfriend, and that is 100% okay

Her PSA-styled new single I'll Never Want A BF makes this clear, so please stop forcing it on her.

Bec Sandridge is known for her charismatic numbers and this one, despite the hard message, is absolutely no different. On the outside, I’ll Never Want A BF is an electric power-pop song that carries you away in a wave of 80s-tinged synths and driving percussion. Her aerobatic vocals are nothing short of stunning, giving everything she touches a subtle sense of theatre, and the beat is made for late-night disco dancefloors. However, take a closer look on the inside and you’ll find a tale of the singer-songwriter combatting attempts left, right and centre to make her straight. Sandridge confronts traditional dreams of getting a big ol’ rock on your hand and wearing white while battling off the single men thrown at her. “You give my number to all of your friends that you hope that I’ll find a nice guy. It’s such a funny thing that you’re trying to pretend that I don’t have a girlfriend by my side,” really is the icing on the honesty cake. Rather than being frustrated or spiteful, I’ll Never Want A BF is empowering. It shows a sense of comfort Bec Sandridge has within herself and a self-assurance we can all aspire to have, regardless of who we love.
