Alt-J share 3WW, the first single from their new album Relaxer

The down-tempo number is the opening track from the album, due out June 9.

In case you missed the news, last week Alt-J teased new music in a mysterious, binary-named audio clip on their YouTube, launching rumours that their just-announced festival shows in the Northern Hemisphere would include new music from their long-awaited third album. 3WWW is the first, and opening single from this album, which now also has a name (Relaxer) and a shiny release date (June 9, 2017). In what’s their first material since 2014’s This Is All Yours, 3WWW is more a down-tempo, experimental cut, signalling a new direction from the now-trio with their new album. After a lengthy, guitar-layering introduction, the soft, now familiar vocals of Joe Newman emerge alongside an unknown female vocal, which comes and goes with the track’s genre-bending indie-electro instrumental.

The band will be heading out on tour across this year, with dates including Lollapalooza and Coachella’s east-coast sister-festival Panorama Festival already announced, with plenty more no-doubt set to drop as the hype for their new record picks up. Are we taking bets on Splendour In The Grass yet?
