With so much new music coming out each and every day, it can be hard to listen to everything, but we'll be damned if we don't try. Here are our favourite tunes from the week that was from the likes of Dirty Three, Dolce Blue, Fred Again.., Hiatus Kaiyote, Human Movement & Ruby May Moon, Magdalena Bay, Mildlife, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Ocean Grove and Pond!

Dirty Three - Love Changes Everything II

The second taste of legendary Aussie trio Dirty Three’s new album (and first in over a decade) sees them in pensive, contemplative mood on this epic, sweeping piece of ambient-influenced post-rock-esque sounds that are undeniably Dirty Three. Dirty Three’s new album Love Changes Everything is out June 14 via Anchor & Hope / Remote Control Records.

Dolce Blue - Typical Kind Of Fun

Perth/Boorloo indie rockers follow-up recent single Sugar Free with a new single of laidback, dreamy bluesy vibes, with the track marking a new creative process for the band, being co-written by singer & guitarist Veronica Zurzolo alongside drummer Brody Honey, who also sings on Typical Kind of Fun. Out now via Blue Grey Pink.

Fred again.. - places to be feat. Anderson Paak & CHIKA

After dropping this one at his now fabled 35,000 person Perth show last month, Fred draws on atmospheric drum and bass influences for his uplifting new single, featuring Paak’s unmistakable vocals and samples from CHIKA. Out now via Warner.

Hiatus Kaiyote - Love Heart Cheat Code

With their hotly anticipated new album out in just under a month, HK dropped the title track this week and it’s another corker of jazzy, soulful, psychedelic beat driven vibes that balances experimentation and accessibility perfectly. Hiatus Kaiyote’s new album Love Heart Cheat Code is out June 28 via Brainfeeder.

Human Movement & Ruby May Moon - Lost Wiv U

Long time mates out of Sydney/Eora, Human Movement and Ruby May Moon (now based in Rotterdam) team up for a new stepper of deep and emotive UK Garage, packing bouncy basslines with skipping drums, atmospheric pads and intriguing vocal samples. Out now via Gallery Recordings.

Magdalena Bay - Death & Romance

LA duo Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin made their long awaited return this week, releasing their first music since 2021’s Mercurial World and yep, it was more than worth the wait! Showcasing their chops as songwriters and musicians, Death & Romance is pure pop perfection, fusing old school band oriented sounds with slick modern production. Out now via Mom + Pop Music.

Mildlife - Musica (CC:DISCO! Dub)

Having released one of the best Aussia albums of the year so far, acclaimed, award winning Naarm/Melbourne psych jazz lords Mildlife follow up Chorus by announcing a new four track collection that will see some interesting takes on their compositions. The first taste sees Aussie producer/DJ extraordinaire CC:Disco! putting her spin on Musica, flipping the OG into an irresistible slice of disco dancefloor goodness. Mildlife’s new EP Mildlife Remixed II is out June 11 via [PIAS] Australia.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Frogs

Nick Cave and biblical reference - name a more iconic combo?! The living legend of Australian music and equally legendary Bad Seeds follow-up the title track of their forthcoming new album with the second taste of the record in the form of the majestic and uplifting sounds of Frogs, packing biblical references throughout. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ new album Wild God is out August 30 via Bad Seed Ltd/PIAS.

Ocean Grove - Fly Away

Melbourne trio and purveyors of all things heavy take the opening lyrics of their new cut literally - “let’s take it back” - as they take it back to their nu metal roots on blistering new single FLY AWAY as they launch their own label ODDWORLD Records, as well as signing to SharpTone Records outside of Australia & New Zealand… Now where’s my wallet chain? Out now via ODDWORLD Records.
