Mark Whalen is a Los Angeles-based artist working across painting and ceramics. His two-dimensional artworks often portray a geometric and curious world, laid out across grids with patterned elements and humanoid beings. Whalen describes them as "characters caught in the throes of ambiguous actions," his work hinting at dark humour through colour and chaos. His work has featured in over two dozen exhibitions, and remains in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia.
