New music: Future Brown, 'Talkin Bandz' feat. Shawnna

Futuristic R & B supergroup Future Brown share album details, hear a new track.

Much to the delight of their overlapping fanbases, NYC-via-Kuwait producer Fatima Al Qadiri, Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda of Nguzunguzu, and Lit City Trax footwork legend J-Cush formed a supergroup, Future Brown, about a year ago now in late 2013. We say 'supergroup' because collectively, those are four of the most interesting producers, DJs, and artists out there right now, working to progress the club music scene. Theirs is a special vision, informed by internet and video game culture, contemporary rap, futuristic R & B, and British grime.

They made an incredible debut, with a track perfectly suited to the dancefloors of the future: Wanna Party (featuring rising rapper Tink, whose currently working with Timbaland, on vocals) that deservedly attracted a lot of hype and quickly made its way into the sets of plenty of left-leaning club DJs. They then worked their grime ties, hitting up Prince Rapid, Dirty Danger of Ruff Sqwad and Roachee (formerly of Roll Deep) for another track, World's Mine. Then they left us hanging! For almost a year.

Until yesterday, when they finally announced their debut LP will drop on February 24 via their new label home at Warp, and let us in on the tracklist (below) Mixed by Chris Tabron at Red Bull Studios NYC, guests on the album include Kelela, Sicko Mobb, Maluca, Timberlee, 3D Na'Tee, and more. Our first taste of the LP is brand new track Talkin Bandz, featuring Chicago rapper Shawnna, whom you might remember from her 2004 tour de force RPM, in which she went toe-to-toe with Ludacris and Twista. Shawnna absolutely slays on Talkin Bandz, rapping about her badassery over Future Brown's cold-as-hell, pixelated synth line and anti-gravity rhythms: I'm not like that other shit/don't compare me to no other bitch/my wrist game like butter, whipped/ so please get off my mothership/I'm hot. "Working with Shawnna was a big deal for us," Future Brown told FADER, "It is an honor to have her vocal this track. It's incredible hearing how she flowed over the beat...Her lyrics are empowering, vivid and playful in the same breath."
