Live Sessions: Gang of Youths - Vital Signs

A hypnotic, heartfelt performance in Pilerats' office stairwell.

Shot in beautiful and unexpected locations, Pile TV's Live Sessions showcase the raw talent of artists we love. Intimate, stripped-back performances full of emotion and power.

As longtime fans of Sydney's Gang of Youths' heartfelt indie rock (read our interview with them HERE), it was a huge treat for Pilerats when David and Joji came through our Office one morning for a private performance, while they were in town for sold-out shows in support of new album The Positions. We had absolute shivers as lead singer David Le'aupepe let his enormous lungs loose in our stairwell, in tandem with Joji Malani's harmonies, both of them demonstrating their seasoned strumming.

The way the track pushes forward before drawing back to almost silence was a dynamic that was hypnotising to witness executed live - stick around for the full six minutes, the boys reach peak momentum towards the end, giving it everything they've got.
