With every single tour announce, there are generally three groups of audiences that find themselves constantly missing out: those in regional centres or outer-suburbs away from the largely central live music precincts; those that are under the age of 18 and can't attend due to licencing restrictions; and those that can't afford it, with tickets often reaching as high as $200 AUD for a large-scale, big-name musician in headline mode (let alone festivals, which often stretch into the hundreds of dollars).

If you go deeper into your local gig guide beyond the first page, however, you can often find little glimpses of gold that pop up here and there that tick all three of these boxes, and Gosnells' Illuminate Night Party is one of these. The completely free and all-ages event just announced their lineup for 2020, and it's stacked with some old Australian favourites and exciting future-dominating locals all at once; The Temper Trap and Gyroscope - two of Australian indie-rock's defining names over the last few decades - joined by The Southern River Band and Brayden Sibbald, the former of which being City of Gosnells natives coming off the back of a huge 2019.

There'll be plenty of other things to enjoy - think roving performers, carnival rides, food trucks and those kinds of things - but it's a chance for people of any age and background to experience Australian live music in their own suburbia-rich backyards, a rare treat that doesn't come along too often - especially on the west coast - and one that I think everyone would agree is important in ensuring the next generation get a kick out of the ol' live bands like everyone else has over the years.

The event goes down on February 22nd from 4:30PM at Gosnells Oval, with tickets to the free event essential and on-sale now
