Falls Festival 2019/2020: Playboi Carti, Wave Racer, Holy Holy + more added to lineup

Plus Lime Cordiale, Thundamentals, Illy, Sampa The Great and more in selected locations.

After announcing their first lineup a few months back, it became clear that Falls Festival were onto something special. This year, the festival united top-line heavyweights - chart-topper Halsey, indie-pop favourites Vampire Weekend and Disclosure's long-awaited return - with one of the strongest Australian undercards in a while: Dope Lemon, Crooked Colours, Thelma Plum and WAAX all included amongst the biggest names, side-by-side with some brilliant up-and-comers like CXLOE and Totty. It was a sign of the festival moving into a bright future after a turbulent few years for Australian music festivals full-stop, and as they unveil their second announcement today, it's become clear that this is only deepening.

Adding a handful of names to each location - and several playing all stops - Falls Festival double-down on those contrasting qualities from above, enlisting international hype-acts - Playboi Carti the obvious stand-out - with an ensemble of Australians both big and small that capture the brilliance of our music scene regardless of size. There's Bad//Dreems, unveiling a new album next month; Montaigne, fresh from the release of her own album COMPLEX; Holy Holy, who are just rounding up a national tour in support of their own record; and Wave Racer, whose long-awaited return to the live circuit will make his set at Falls Festival one of the year's most excitable.

Also stepping up this year are a horde of acts that cement Falls Festival's status for picking out the future of Australian music and the many forms it takes. Hip-hop rising-star B Wise is among the mix, as is A Swayze & The Ghost, Adrian Eagle and BIGSOUND favourites Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers.

Then, there's also the mix of acts joining selected stops of this year's events, with Tash Sultana, Wolfmother, Matt Corby and What So Not joined by a handful of acts in their one-off appearances. In Byron Bay, Thundamentals, Cosmo's Midnight and Concrete Surfers join the lineup. In Lorne, The Jungle Giants, Lime Cordiale and Kwame join What So Not on the location-exclusive bill. In Marion Bay, Illy, Luca Brasi and Kat Edwards jump up, while in Fremantle, Matt Corby is joined by Sampa The Great, Lime Cordiale and local favourites Sly Withers.
