Courtney Barnett Set to Close Iconic Milk! Records

Courtney Barnett Set to Close Iconic Milk! Records

The news comes alongside three new singles from Barnett’s forthcoming album, the label’s last record

In a new interview with The Guardian, beloved Aussie indie icon Courtney Barnett has announced that after more than 10 years and over 70 releases, the award winning label Milk! Records will be finishing up operations this year.

The last album on the label will fittingly come from Barnett herself, with her first instrumental album End Of The Day set for a September 8 release. Giving us not one but three tastes of what to expect, Barnett today had also released the album’s first three tracks - Start Somewhere, Life Balance and First Slow.

Explaining why the decision to wrap up Milk! Records, Barnett told The Guardian “I don’t have a soundbite yet, of what to say” and that “It just felt like the right time.” She went on to explain “I’m still coming to terms with the end of it … But I’m letting go of that [guilt] feeling. It’s like that idea of looking after yourself so you can look after someone else. That reverse selfishness – you can’t love someone ‘til you love yourself – that kind of idea.”

With an incredibly deep and diverse catalogue including albums from Barnett alongside the likes of Jen Cloher, Tiny Ruins, Jade Imagine, Hand Habits and many more (including some awesome compilations), End Of The Day feels like a perfect way for an amazing label to go out on top.
