Track By Track: Sarah Connor dives into her excellent debut EP, Just Breathe

The seven-track release just dropped and is dripping with fire.

Sarah Connor burst onto the local hip hop scene in Sydney four years ago, and has since been putting in werk with a solid work ethic, hard-hitting and energetic live shows and the odd banger or two. Drawing on these past few years of experience, last week saw the release of her debut EP, Just Breathe, a powerful seven tracks featuring some of her close friends in hip hop and production, and she's given us a little insight into the tracks below:

JUST BREATHE feat. ALPHAMAMA

Just Breathe is the title track off my debut EP, delving deep into the psyche and conscience behind the pressures of making a record. Full of hope and life with a pop/boom bap influenced beat this is a song of comfort in the darkest of days. “Happiness can be found in the dark - if we turn on the light.”

LIGHT feat. LUSHESS

Equal parts light and dark, because one doesn’t exist without the other, Light is a critique of my world and a challenge to the bullshit. Produced by Simplex, and weaving hooks and harmony’s by my best friend and stage partner Lushess, this is the first single to drop from the release.

APEX

Apex is big and bossy. A collaboration amongst UK now Australian rapper Bigredcap, and local stalwart Losty, Apex is braggadocio bravado to get your head nodding and your heart pumping.

LION'S CREEP feat. NATALIE SLADE

Lion’s Creep is a fun and soulful collab with Sydney duo Yum Yum. Featuring the deep toned and rich vocals of Natalie Slade and danceable vibes of producer Jayo this is not only a expose of the beauty of Sydney night life, but a dedication that musicians in our scene will not go down without a fight.

KILL BILL

Kill Bill is the first track I ever made and a definite flex of my lyrical and vocal skill as a rapper. It's unarguable and unimpeachable and an introduction to abilities with the mic.

PLAYED ON

Modern, fresh and weaving story telling with abrupt hooks, this tells the story of discovering a cheater and dealing with it.

GRAVY

Apex beat maker Illsince86 is back with a vengeance on a track that is audacious, banging and lyrically fierce. Typical hashtag slay and a sign off by yours truly.
