Songs Worth Streaming: FKA Twigs - careless feat. Daniel Caesar

Taken from her collaborative new mixtape CAPRISONGS, FKA Twigs finds beauty in a striking partnership with Daniel Caesar.

FKA Twigs and Daniel Caesar are two artists long beyond the need for an introduction. The former has become a hallmark artist of modern-day pop and R&B, pushing boundaries with her breakthrough debut album LP1 in 2014, before eventually following it up with her innovative sophomore, 2019's sky-high MAGDALENE. Then, there's Daniel Caesar, a near-mythical figure regarded as a pioneer of current R&B through both his own records - three of them now, including 2019's CASE STUDY 01 - and collaborations alongside The Free Nationals, Charlotte Day Wilson, Kali Uchis, BADBADNOTGOOD and more.

Apart, they're two artists heavily regarded as trailblazers of modern R&B; pioneers taking the conventions of the genre laid throughout history and bringing them forwards to 2022 (and beyond). They've also become two of the genre's most adored names through the process of doing so, both transforming from somewhat cult-like heroes to well-established, festival-headlining heavyweights - something that's backed by the class of the music they release.

Now, the pair come together through FKA Twigs' playful new mixtape CAPRISONGS, a collaboration-heavy collection of tracks that in addition to Daniel Caesar, also enlists guests including The Weeknd, Jorja Smith, Shygirl, Pa Salieu and more. CAPRISONGS is FKA Twigs' most delightful release thus far, and careless - her collaboration with Daniel Caesar - is key-like piece to the career-spanning puzzle that links CAPRISONGSpop sheen to that of FKA's more R&B-focused background, and it's an incredible moment.

It's a collaboration that highlights the strengths of both FKA Twigs and Daniel Caesar, as their voices intertwine amongst a washed-out production that elevates their respective presences; both FKA and Daniel Caesar sounding near-ethereal in careless' painful beauty. Amongst a mixtape rich with pop experimentation, careless feels like something that could be plucked from MAGDALENE's enchanting stronghold; a reminder of FKA Twigs' stunning vocal beauty, as well as that of Daniel Caesar's, who remains in somewhat of a collaborative mode following the release of his last album in 2019.

It's an incredible moment amongst an incredible record, and we can suggest it enough. Listen to careless by FKA Twigs and Daniel Caesar below:
