Listen: B Wise - Lately (Cabu Remix)

The southwest Sydney emcee's new tune gets an injection of urban soul.

Turn the mid-week madness down several notches with this super 'laxed out offering from young Sydney producer Cabu (pronounced "kahboo"), a remix of rapper-on-the-rise B Wise's most recent single Lately.

Cabu's on a winner with the sunset-soaked saxophone he's thrown in here - giving it a kind of soulful, early 90s urban R & B feel - i.e. prime for you to bump in your Jeep through some beachside suburb. To paraphrase avid Youtube commentator speak, "B Wise brought me here", but now I'm all the better for having heard Cabu. In short, a nice pairing where both artists really add a lot of depth to each others' sound.

Lately, which came out about a month back, was produced by Dopamine. Dopamine's given B Wise a pretty silky smooth flow to work with via the Lately beat, switching it up between slow-motion synths and sped-up percussion in a style that's reminscent of say, Giraffage. Its a definite contrast to B Wise's prior single, Prince Akeem, produced by Raph Lauren of Jackie Onassis / One Day fame, which was more of an upbeat, infectious offering. Prince Akeem came accompanied by a hilarious, Eddie Murphy-referencing video clip that you should watch - we wrote about it here.

B Wise hits the road soon as the national support on Thundamentals MC Tuka's solo tour - check dates below.
