Introducing Tobiahs, and his garage-infused new single Through To You

The young, genre-crossing producer is another exciting name emerging from Melbourne, and his new single Through To You is just the start.

Already boasting names such as Christopher Port, Melbourne's bustling, garage-influenced house scene is always recruiting new and exciting names, the most recent of which appearing to be 18-year-old producer Tobiahs. His new single Through To You throbs with this energetic electronic flavour, with charming vocal work courtesy of his younger sister and a funky, almost tribal-like garage production that is the driving force behind the single's constantly-pushing sound. The single is out with the support of Valve Sounds, a local label which includes some of Australia's most exciting names in electronic and hip-hop (UV boi and Midas.Gold, for example), and to celebrate, we got the young producer to introduce himself and his lively debut single, which you can stream below.

Tell us about yourself?

I’m 18, from Melbourne. I spend 90% of my days producing and writing music.

What's the vibe music-wise?

I’ve been attempting to craft a specific sound for myself. I resonate most with garage, hip-hop and electronic music, but I never begin a song with a specific genre in mind - I feel that restricts the creative process. Ultimately, my aim is to make electronic music feel as personal as possible. So it’s more human in emotion rather than just that electronic feel.

Production / writing process?

I don’t really have a process. Once I’m in that bubble of creating, everything else phases out. I forget to do things like eat, drink, sleep or reply to texts, making me a shit as friend to have haha. But it’s what works for me and it’s something I feel only creatives can explain.

Can you tell us about your new single, Through To You?

Through To You was an idea I had given up on. The initial project just wasn’t going anywhere, which can get real frustrating. One day I decided to go back to it with a new mindset and everything just clicked. So I got my younger (15 year old) sister to write some lyrics with me, and it all fell into place. Yes, that voice is coming from a 15 year old.

What's the rest of the year have in store?

I’m hoping to play some shows and release more music. Art is a big part of me so I hope to collaborate with more creatives in building a more visual side to my music. Apart from my own project, I produce music for other artists. That is another thing I hope to focus on more this year.

Where can we hear more of your music?

I recently produced a song for one of my favourite artists JABS, it’s called Wilderness. Other than all my music is on SOUNDCLOUD.
