Ahead of his BIGSOUND appearance, meet Intriguant and his otherworldly electronica

He joins a host of exciting Singaporean artists making the trip over the conference.

Ahead of the release of the full remix album this September, Singaporean DJ/producer Intriguant has unveiled the first taste of the Recluse Remix LP with a re-do of the title track from Japanese-based producer Daisuke Tanabe. It's a wonderful meeting of the musical minds, and serves as the perfect entree to Intriguants upcoming appearance at the Hear65 Showcase at Ric's Bar Big Backyard on September 5, also featuring Linying, Charlie Lim and The Steve McQueens (more info HERE).

Get to know him a little better below, and catch him live in Brisbane next week:

Wed 5 Sep - Hear65 Showcase @ Ric's Big Backyard (7.20-7.50pm)

Thu 6 Sep - Wooly Mammoth (9.50-10.20pm)

Tell us about yourself.

I am a music producer/sound designer/DJ/music enthusiast/heartbreaker kinda guy.

What kinda tunes we talkin’?

Tunes that are inspired by electronica and experimental music laced with hip hop and soul. I’m a huge fan of the hip hop culture and the progression of the music inspired by the Los Angeles beat scene and Low End Theory. Some of my favourite artists are Bonobo, Nosaj Thing, Shigeto, Prefuse 73 and Amon Tobin, to name a few.

Production/writing process:

It can come from anywhere. It can start from the beat, the synth or the ending. For example, it can start with a sound that I have recorded in my studio or the outdoors, I will manipulate it and experiment with it and add synths and electronic sounds over it and end it with a beat. But, sometimes the beat would come first, so it’s all a vibe thing. Getting the vibe for the sound I’m looking for.

Always have an open mind and open ears.

Can you tell us a bit about your latest release?

The latest release that is coming out is the remix album of the Recluse LP. It features a stellar line-up of producers based around the world such as, Japan, Manila (Philippines), Melbourne (Australia), New York (USA) and Singapore. The Recluse album is my debut LP, which features a couple of Singaporean artists and I’m very excited to share the remixed version with you all, which the above mentioned producers have added their own style and twist to.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s BIGSOUND conference?

I’m looking forward to checking out the gigs that will be happening during the festival. The line-up already looks sick! Definitely can’t wait to meet like-minded people and musicians there.

What does the rest of the year have in store?

First up, BIGSOUND in Brisbane and doing a gig at Ferdydurke in Melbourne. I will be heading to Japan in October for a couple of shows and I’m looking to release an EP before the year ends. More headline shows are in the works for sure!

Where can we hear more of your music?

Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Spotify.
